Wind turbines may look peaceful from afar, but these massive structures are built to resist the toughest weather conditions. And that’s why they need integral bearing components hard turned and finished on BOST machines. Rowan Easter-Robinson of MTDCNC and Henning Brinkhus of Thyssenkrupp are at the big bearing facility to discuss how these extremely precise and up to 6-meter diameter components are made. Wind turbines have 5 critical bearings that provide support for turbines to withstand harsh multi-directional forces. Made from a block of steel, the bearings are forged, rough turned, and heated with the final finishing performed on BOST machines. Watch the video to learn more.
