Schneider Electric to Automate Mumbai’s Largest Water Treatment Plant!

Schneider Electric has been awarded a contract to modernize and automate the largest water treatment plant (WTP) in India, located in Bhandup, Mumbai. This 2,000 MLD (million liters per day) facility is a critical step in the Maharashtra government’s mission to provide potable water to 22 million residents.

Currently, Maharashtra recycles only 4% of its wastewater, a limitation stemming from outdated technology. The modernization of the Bhandup facility with advanced automation solutions will improve water treatment efficiency, reduce waste, and increase the plant’s recyclability, directly addressing this challenge.

Schneider Electric will deploy its EcoStruxure Process Expert M580-EPA, EasyRelays, transformers, and UPS solutions to streamline operations. These technologies are designed to:

  • Optimize plant efficiency, ensuring seamless processing of water.
  • Enhance operational safety, protecting equipment and personnel.
  • Reduce waste, contributing to sustainability and resource conservation.

Schneider Electric has worked closely with stakeholders from the inspection phase to ensure smooth integration of its digital solutions into the plant’s existing operations. This proactive approach guarantees a seamless transition to a more modern, efficient system.

The automation of the Bhandup WTP highlights Schneider Electric’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. By equipping the plant with advanced technologies, the project will significantly bolster Mumbai’s water infrastructure, ensuring millions of people have access to clean, potable water while fostering a more sustainable approach to wastewater management.

This landmark initiative reflects a broader vision to modernize India’s utilities and promote environmental stewardship, setting a benchmark for future water treatment projects across the nation.
