Yamaha Robotics Expands Hamamatsu Facility, Doubling Production Capacity!

Yamaha Robotics has completed a major renovation and expansion of its Hamamatsu Robotics Office in Japan, marking the 40th anniversary of Yamaha’s Robotics Business, which began in 1984 as the IM Division. The facility focuses on the development, manufacturing, and sale of surface mounters and industrial robots, and the expansion significantly enhances Yamaha’s ability to meet growing market demands. The opening ceremony was attended by approximately 200 people, including key business partners.

The renovation, which began in January 2023, increased the total floor area of the office buildings by 1.6 times and expanded the production area by 1.8 times, effectively doubling the production capacity for surface mounters. This expansion aligns with Yamaha’s strategic investment under its medium-term management plan (2022-2024) to support business growth and enhance customer-focused systems in technology, sales, and services.

As part of the expansion, the facility now features additional solar panels, converting it to electric power and making it Yamaha’s first Carbon Neutral Factory with the introduction of CO2-free electricity in 2022. This reflects Yamaha’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

The Yamaha Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Section, a subdivision of the Yamaha Motor Robotics Business Unit, continues to provide a comprehensive range of equipment for high-speed inline electronic assembly, including solder paste printers, component mounters, 3D PCB inspection machines, and more. Yamaha’s systems are designed for seamless operator interaction, modularity, and precision, ensuring that manufacturers can meet the latest demands in the industry.

With a global presence in Japan, China, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America, Yamaha’s SMT Section is dedicated to improving operational efficiency and expanding its market reach with its latest YR equipment generation and advanced YSUP management software featuring built-in data analytics. The expanded Hamamatsu facility underscores Yamaha’s continued commitment to driving innovation and growth in the robotics and electronics manufacturing sectors.
