Walter Introduces WE Exchangeable Heads and W3270/W3271 Boring Bars!

Walter has launched its new WE Exchangeable Heads and W3270/W3271 Boring Bars, tailored for small part machining and Swiss-type lathe applications. These tools are engineered to deliver consistent, high-quality machining, minimizing rejection rates while maximizing tool life. The precision-ground, sharp cutting edges are specifically designed to enhance reliability and efficiency in demanding machining environments.

The WE Exchangeable Heads are suitable for internal machining starting at diameters as small as 7 mm (0.276 in.) and for axial grooving from diameters of 12 mm (0.472 in.). These heads feature a positive engagement system with three contact surfaces, ensuring high process reliability, stability, and accuracy. This design makes them ideal for achieving superior results in small-scale and intricate machining applications.

The W3270 and W3271 Boring Bars are available in sizes ranging from 12-16 mm and 0.5-0.625 inches, constructed in both steel and carbide for universal applicability. The W3270 radial boring bars include a coolant outlet on both sides, rake face cooling, and an additional flushing hole to facilitate high-volume coolant flow. Meanwhile, the W3271 axial boring bars are available in right-hand and left-hand configurations with optimized coolant outlets, ensuring efficient cooling during operation.

Walter has also introduced insert grades WSM23X and WSM13X to complement these tools. The WSM23X is primarily designed for cutting steel, stainless steel, and difficult-to-machine materials, while the WSM13X features a PVD coating with multiple layers of titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) and a titanium nitride (TiN) top layer, making it suitable for parting off, grooving, and turning operations.

These new tools and inserts are designed to provide manufacturers with exceptional precision, process reliability, and flexibility. With a wide standard range and customizable options, Walter continues to support its customers with innovative solutions for small-part machining challenges.
