United Grinding Group has revolutionized its production environment by successfully integrating a range of machines, including older models, using the universal machine technology interface, umati. This innovation has simplified the once-complex task of connecting various systems within their production lines.
With a diverse customer base spanning industries like automotive, aerospace, and precision mechanics, United Grinding manages an array of grinding, eroding, measuring, and third-party machines. In the past, optimizing these different machines for production posed significant challenges, but umati has streamlined the entire process.
During a demonstration at STUDER, United Grinding’s cylindrical grinding machine division, umati connected machines from various manufacturers, such as DMG Mori and WALDRICH COBURG, directly into United Grinding Digital Solutions™ Production Monitor. This breakthrough integration not only shows umati’s ability to network modern equipment but also machines that are over 15 years old.
Christian Josi, Head of Digital Engineering, highlighted umati’s user-friendly approach to integrating legacy machines. Christian Breitenbaumer, an automation technician apprentice, played a crucial role in making the WALDRICH COBURG machine compatible with umati. Now, key productivity data from these machines can be accessed in real-time on different devices, enhancing operational transparency and efficiency.
United Grinding continues to champion umati’s development as a global standard for machine tool communication, paving the way for more seamless manufacturing solutions.
