Unisig, a global manufacturer of deep-hole drilling machines, has extended its technology and equipment for its 5,000-square-foot fabrication department, which was recently built.
The expansion is in keeping with Unisig’s aim of developing in-house, design-to-finish manufacture of high-quality sheet metal components utilised in its product line. The company claims that by creating many of its parts in-house, it can keep and maintain the quality and quantity of its components while optimising the mix of parts created domestically against those outsourced for production.
The investment comprises fibre laser cutting technology as well as a 242-ton capacity press brake with a seven-axis programmable back gauge, both of which utilise 3D programming and simulation software. The investment included software and training for the company’s workers, as well as the hire of extra personnel.
MIG and TIG welding with enhanced digital process management and a weld boom with power help are also among Unisig’s fabrication advancements. A modular fixture system allows for the precise assembly of components from 3D models, whereas a vertical pallet system stores raw sheet material. Vacuum sheet lifting technology and improved bridge crane controls make material handling easier for department staff.
