Toyota Sets Its Sights on Maharashtra with New EV Manufacturing Facility!

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has taken a significant step toward expanding its electric vehicle (EV) production capabilities by securing 827 acres of land in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. This move follows a formal agreement signed with the Maharashtra state government to establish a greenfield plant dedicated to the manufacturing of electric and hybrid vehicles.

The new facility will be strategically located within a greenfield industrial city, developed collaboratively by the Central and Maharashtra governments through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) called Maharashtra Industrial Township Limited (MITL). This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance industrial infrastructure in the Shendra and Bidkin regions, fostering economic growth and job creation.

TKM plans to invest ₹21,000 crore in the new manufacturing plant, which is anticipated to commence construction soon. Production is slated to begin by January 2026, with the facility projected to manufacture up to 400,000 electric and hybrid vehicles annually. The establishment of the plant is expected to create approximately 8,000 direct jobs and an additional 18,000 indirect jobs, significantly contributing to the local economy.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasized the transformative potential of this project for the automotive industry in the region, noting that the investment will greatly bolster Maharashtra’s standing as a hub for electric vehicle manufacturing.

As a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation and the Kirloskar Group, TKM has established itself as a leading player in India’s automobile sector since its inception in 1997. The company is recognized for its commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability, producing a diverse range of vehicles from compact cars to SUVs. With this new plant, TKM aims to enhance its green mobility solutions, aligning with Toyota’s global vision for a sustainable future. The existing state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Bidadi, Karnataka, will complement this new endeavor, further solidifying TKM’s contributions to India’s automotive landscape.
