Tormach is stepping up its efforts to tackle the skilled labor gap by expanding its educational initiatives. The company has developed a comprehensive CNC metal milling curriculum and introduced a new fourth axis for its xsTECH Tabletop CNC Router. These initiatives aim to equip the next generation of manufacturing professionals with the hands-on skills required for success in the industry.
Tormach is working closely with the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) to create a curriculum that not only teaches CNC metal milling but also certifies students, providing them with industry-recognized credentials. This initiative is designed to meet the growing demand for skilled workers in manufacturing and production roles.
The education program, developed by a team of former Career and Technical Education (CTE) educators, focuses on aligning curriculum, offering hands-on training, and ensuring that students gain practical experience. Tormach’s team also partners with schools to provide ongoing support to teachers, ensuring they have the resources and guidance to navigate the changing landscape of modern manufacturing education.
Tormach’s xsTECH CNC router is an entry-level tool designed to make CNC technology accessible. It’s ideal for learning environments such as craft rooms or makerspaces, and it allows students to gain a foundational understanding of CNC fundamentals. The xsTECH router is versatile, capable of cutting various materials like plastic, wood, and aluminum, and it is supported by Tormach’s free, open-source PathPilot control software.
In addition to the xsTECH CNC router, Tormach has introduced a new fourth-axis kit for the tabletop router, which will allow students to expand their capabilities and explore more complex machining techniques. This addition enhances the educational experience, making it easier for students to learn advanced CNC operations on a compact, user-friendly system.
Through these efforts, Tormach is aiming to bridge the skills gap in the manufacturing sector, providing students with the knowledge, credentials, and hands-on experience they need to succeed in the ever-evolving field of CNC machining.
