SPS Companies and State Steel Announce Strategic Combination!

Manhattan, Kan.-based SPS Companies Inc. and State Steel of Sioux City, Iowa, have announced an agreement to combine their steel service center businesses under the SPS Companies family. This move unites two prominent players in steel distribution and fabrication to create a stronger, more comprehensive network of services.

As part of the agreement, State Steel will continue to operate as an independent business unit under the SPS Companies umbrella. David Bernstein, president of State Steel, will retain his leadership role along with the existing management team. Additionally, Bernstein will become a shareholder in SPS and join its board of directors, ensuring continuity and strategic input at the highest level.

The combined entities will enhance their geographic footprint significantly:

  • SPS Companies operates steel distribution and fabrication facilities across 11 U.S. states and Monterrey, Mexico.
  • State Steel brings a robust presence with operations in six cities throughout the Upper Midwest.

This expanded reach strengthens both companies’ abilities to serve diverse markets with greater efficiency and capacity.

The collaboration underscores a mutual commitment to fostering growth and meeting the evolving needs of customers.
