Revolutionary Norton RazorStar Abrasives: Enhancing Grinding Performance

Saint-Gobain Abrasives has unveiled its latest innovation with the introduction of Norton RazorStar Fiber Discs, Quick-Change Discs, and Belts. These cutting-edge abrasives feature shaped ceramic grains designed to elevate performance in challenging grinding applications. Engineered with a specialized combination of razor-sharp grains and a large grinding aid, they effectively reduce heat generation, resulting in cooler cuts and extended product life across various materials, including carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, nickel alloys, and other difficult-to-grind metals.

The key to high cut rates and efficient material removal lies in the engineered, shaped grain present in Norton RazorStar Belts and Discs. Each grain maintains a consistent shape with sharp cutting points, ensuring uniform performance. Additionally, the tough micro-structure of the grains enables them to stay sharp over time, with new cutting points exposed as the grain fractures. Moreover, the high concentration of grains, oriented in an upright position, ensures aggressive cutting performance at the sharpest point.

Jeremy Spencer, product manager at Norton | Saint-Gobain Abrasives, expresses excitement about the new products, highlighting a remarkable up to 50% improvement in cutting performance compared to other ceramic discs currently available in the market. The introduction of RazorStar abrasive discs promises to elevate grinding efficiency significantly, particularly in tasks such as weld removal, grinding, beveling, and heavy deburring.

Available in 36-grit, the RazorStar Fiber Discs come in sizes ranging from 4 1/2″ to 9″ with options including 7/8 hole, speed-change, and AVOS discs. These products cater to various industries, including maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO), metal fabrication, welding, oil and gas, energy, and shipbuilding. Meanwhile, the RazorStar Quick-Change Discs, available in 2″ and 3″ sizes, feature a robust backing designed to withstand extreme pressure during stock removal, deburring, beveling, and blending operations, making them ideal for aerospace, MRO, metal fabrication, welding, and energy applications. Lastly, the RazorStar Belts, customizable to specific requirements, excel in impact grinding, robotic or off-hand applications across industries such as foundry, aerospace, automotive, metal fabrication, oil and gas, and general engineering.
