Renishaw Equator Measurement System: Delivering Flexible, High-Volume Gaging for Precision Manufacturing!

At PMTS 2025, Renishaw showcases its Equator measurement systems, which are designed for high-speed, highly repeatable, and versatile gaging of medium to high-volume manufactured parts. These systems are ideal for applications such as transmission components for automotive and landing gear for aerospace, where precision and speed are paramount.

The Equator system operates in a broad temperature range of 5-50°C and up to 80% humidity, making it highly adaptable for diverse shopfloor conditions. The system’s integration with robotic or shuttle systems simplifies part loading, further streamlining the inspection process. By enabling seamless communication with automated work cell equipment, it offers an efficient solution for high-volume production environments, resulting in reduced cycle times, increased throughput, and improved productivity.

A key advantage of the Equator system is its ability to bring flexible gaging directly to the point of manufacture, which allows for real-time validation of machining operations. This process enhances automated process control and tool offset management, improving overall manufacturing accuracy. The system shifts from sample inspection to 100% inspection, providing continuous quality assurance.

Renishaw’s Process Monitor function displays real-time gaging data, including bar graphs and charts, which assist operators in making immediate process corrections and preventing scrap. Furthermore, Intelligent Process Control (IPC) software records actionable data, offering automated solutions to address common production issues such as tool wear and thermal drift, ensuring consistent part quality.

Equator gaging systems are designed to handle a wide range of parts and adapt to design changes. With an automatic stylus changing rack, the system can inspect multiple parts in quick succession, optimizing the inspection process. Enhanced machine connectivity and automation software further improve integration within automated cells, making the system ideal for advanced manufacturing environments.

The REN-IO interface unit, coupled with EZ-IO automation software, provides up to 32 digital I/O connections, enabling seamless communication between the Equator system and other equipment in the automated manufacturing cell. The EZ-IO software simplifies the setup process, ensuring quick configuration for communication between the system and the cell controller, which significantly enhances operational efficiency.
