Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has inaugurated its latest Open Innovation Hub in India, marking the company’s fifth global innovation center following establishments in the UK, US, Israel, and Brazil. This strategic expansion aims to accelerate advancements in electric vehicles (EVs), artificial intelligence (AI), and autonomous driving technologies, furthering JLR’s commitment to innovation since the launch of its Open Innovation Programme in 2022.
The newly established India-based Hub is designed to collaborate closely with startups and tech firms, fostering the development of next-generation solutions in deep tech areas such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, the Internet of Things (IoT), advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and sensor technology. Supported by Plug and Play, a global corporate innovation platform and investor, JLR’s India Hub will bring together industry leaders, academia, government entities, and various stakeholders to create strategic technological solutions. Key focus areas include optimizing battery performance for EVs, enhancing ADAS capabilities, and identifying optimal locations for EV charging infrastructure.
Since the inception of JLR’s Open Innovation Programme, over 2,500 startups have engaged with the initiative, resulting in 33 formal partnerships. Igor Murakami, JLR Innovation Director, emphasized the significance of India’s vibrant startup ecosystem and JLR’s established relationships with the Tata Group as key factors in selecting India as the location for this new hub. “The addition of an Innovation Hub in India enhances our capacity to collaborate globally and drive innovations that support vehicle design, features, and customer experiences,” Murakami explained.
Lalitha Indrakanti, CEO of JLR Technology & Business Services India, highlighted the Hub’s role in leveraging India’s deep tech talent pool with a focus on innovation and sustainability. “We aim to be a leading center for mobility and sustainable tech, attracting disruptors to bring impactful solutions to the market,” she noted.

The establishment of the Innovation Hub in India underscores JLR’s dedication to strengthening its position in mobility and sustainability, while actively engaging with India’s burgeoning tech talent to drive the future of automotive innovation. By integrating advanced technologies and fostering collaborative partnerships, JLR aims to deliver superior vehicle designs, enhanced features, and exceptional customer experiences that align with the evolving demands of the global market.
