Ather Energy has announced two innovative platforms to enhance its electric vehicle offerings: Zenith and EL. These platforms are designed to support the company’s growth in the electric two-wheeler market, with Zenith aimed at electric motorcycles in the 125-300cc category, and EL serving as the foundation for its future lineup of electric scooters.
The Zenith platform is set to revolutionize the electric motorcycle segment, which has seen slow growth in India despite efforts by companies like Tork, Revolt, and Ultraviolette. Ather sees electric motorcycles as a significant opportunity to tap into the broader market, predicting that electric vehicles will account for 10% of the motorcycle sector by the end of this decade, with motorcycles comprising 63% of the total volume.
The EL platform will be a versatile and affordable base for Ather’s electric scooters, incorporating advanced technology from the current Ather 450, including Atherstack software and battery systems. The platform is expected to bring improvements in chassis, electronics, and motor capabilities.
Ather’s new vehicles built on the Zenith and EL platforms will be assembled at a new facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, set to be completed by May 2026. The company’s existing plants in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, have a combined production capacity of 4.2 lakh units annually. In fiscal 2024, Ather sold 1.10 lakh electric two-wheelers, a notable increase from 92,093 units sold in fiscal 2023, signaling the company’s continued growth in India’s electrification drive.
