SMW Autoblok Introduces WPS XL and Advanced Workholding Systems for Precision Machining

SMW Autoblok unveils the WPS XL (Workpiece Positioning System), a cutting-edge manual zero-point clamping system tailored for large workpieces and five-axis machining, ideal for milling, measuring, and grinding operations. With a focus on flexibility and speed, the WPS XL enables users to reduce setup times by over 90% through quick actuation and three simple rotations, delivering a pull-down force of 40 kN, a holding force of 100 kN, and maximum torque of 30 Nm with repeatability below 0.01 mm.

The WPS XL is designed for robust performance, featuring hardened components and three clamping slides for maximum hold during operations. The system also incorporates Proofline technology, fully sealed against swarf and chips, ensuring low maintenance and extended durability. It is compatible with a wide range of industry-standard stationary workholding systems and can be integrated with SMW Autoblok’s Workpiece Preparation Device (WPS-PPD), making it versatile for machining plates, molds, and dies across various sizes.

The WPS XL is part of a comprehensive line of WPS clamping modules offered in multiple heights, from 40 mm to 200 mm, ensuring precision clamping for virtually any workpiece size. These modules can be mounted on t-slotted tables or grid plates made from highly tempered quality steel, offering protection against rust and contaminants.

In addition to the WPS XL, SMW Autoblok highlights the Plus5 V5 Zero Point Vise system, which offers omnidirectional clamping for uniformity in five-axis machining operations. The V5 Vise system features self-centering operation, sealed lead screws, and SinterGrip inserts that eliminate the need for dovetailing or crimping, providing an optimal quality-price ratio for various manufacturing applications.

The company also introduces the KIT-RR chuck system, designed for both manual and robotic use. The KIT-RR system includes the RR Adapter and RR soft top jaws, which enable quick switching between OD and ID clamping in seconds. The push-pin locking mechanism ensures safety and precision, eliminating the need for screws and complex changeovers.

Further expanding its automation offerings, SMW Autoblok’s SMW Electronics division presents the Motiact gripper series, engineered for precise and consistent gripping in industrial and electronic applications. These mechatronic grippers, available in small, universal, and long-stroke variants, are IP67 rated for durability and feature an inductive coupling system that allows for 360-degree rotation and non-contact power and signal transmission. The MX-L520 large-stroke gripper, in particular, delivers up to 40 kN of gripping force with high repeatability and safety, even in the event of a power failure.

The Motiact grippers are designed to optimize workflow in automated workcells, providing reliable and versatile solutions for end-of-arm tooling in CNC machines and other automated systems. The innovative technology behind SMW Autoblok’s workholding and automation solutions underscores the company’s commitment to enhancing precision, efficiency, and flexibility in modern manufacturing environments.
