Druckguss Westfalen, a leading aluminum die-casting company from Germany, has been a key player in automotive component manufacturing for over 50 years. Based in North Rhine-Westphalia, the company serves both electromobility and internal combustion engine sectors.
In 2022, a major order for large components forced Druckguss Westfalen to seek new machinery. After discovering the Grob-Werke G520F at AMB 2022, Martin Simon, head of production, was impressed not just by the machine but by Grob’s expert engineering team. The G520F met their requirements for machining larger components, showing Grob’s ability to serve the die-casting industry as effectively as it does automotive clients.
The G520F stood out for its size, dynamic performance, and precision. Druckguss Westfalen faced challenges with long delivery times from other suppliers, but Grob responded promptly to their inquiry. Within a day, they were invited to Grob’s plant in Mindelheim to discuss the technical details. After three months, the G520F was installed, commissioned, and put into production.
The G520F was integrated into Druckguss Westfalen’s existing production island for aluminum casing manufacturing, essential for housing power electronics for a major car manufacturer. With a component size of 280x800mm, the company opted to add a swivel changer to boost productivity and reduce manual handling. The new system enabled them to save one staff member per three-shift period. Grob’s comprehensive support ensured a smooth transition.
The G520F is a versatile two-spindle machine designed for light components like chassis parts and battery housings. It offers a maximum part length of up to 1,500mm with unrestricted A- and B-axes, ensuring optimal heat dissipation and chip fall. Its flexible automation options, including top loading, pallet changers, and robot integration, made it an ideal fit for the company.
Mr. Simon praised the machine’s precision, dynamic nature, and reliability, stating it was the best machine he’d ever purchased. He expressed plans to expand with more Grob machines in the future. Frank Uelwer, head of sales at Grob’s partner agency Produktionstechnik NRW, noted that their rapid response and machining expertise enabled them to offer tailored solutions to customers like Druckguss Westfalen.
