Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Aero Engines, Ltd. (MHIAEL) and Rolls-Royce plc recently marked the 20th anniversary of their strategic partnership. A commemorative ceremony took place at MHIAEL , highlighting two decades of collaboration that began with their Risk & Revenue Sharing Partnership Agreement in 2004.
The partnership first took shape through the Trent 1000 engine programme, which supports the Boeing 787 fleet. Over the years, the collaboration expanded to include Trent XWB-84 programme for the Airbus A350-900 (launched in 2008), Trent XWB-97 programme for the Airbus A350-1000 (launched in 2013) and Trent 7000 programme for the Airbus A330neo (launched in 2015).
These joint ventures have cemented MHIAEL and Rolls-Royce as key players in the development of wide-body aircraft engines, advancing technological innovation and operational excellence.
Masanori Ushida, President & CEO of MHIAEL, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: “Over the past 20 years, our relationship has evolved into a strategic partnership in the wide-body engine business through business operations, technological development, and personnel exchange. As a result, our business with Rolls-Royce has steadily grown as an important pillar of our company.”
