GE Aerospace has secured a significant order from Poland for 210 T700 engines, which will power 96 Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopters for the Polish Armed Forces. Amy Gowder, President and CEO of Defense and Systems at GE Aerospace, highlighted the T700’s exceptional performance, reliability, and durability, making it the engine of choice for medium-sized helicopters. This order strengthens GE Aerospace’s longstanding relationship with Poland, expanding the nation’s fleet of GE-powered military aircraft.
The T700 engines will be deployed in various helicopters already part of Poland’s Armed Forces, including the Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawks and the Leonardo AW149 and AW101 helicopters. The agreement builds on the cooperative agreement signed in August 2024 between GE Aerospace and the Polish Ministry of National Defense, aimed at enhancing Poland’s defence capabilities.
Under this agreement, Wojskowe Zakłady Lotnicze NR 1 S.A. (WZL-1) in Deblin will provide licensed maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) support for the T700 engines in Poland. Additionally, Wojskowa Akademia Techniczna (WAT) in Warsaw will oversee training programmes for Polish military personnel, WZL-1 employees, and technicians to support the maintenance of the Apache helicopters and other aircraft powered by GE engines.
This collaboration between GE Aerospace, WZL-1, and WAT will create valuable new opportunities for MRO technology, training, and technical assistance within Poland’s defence sector, while also sustaining high-value jobs. It will also ensure that Poland has a secure engine supply and can provide in-country maintenance capabilities for its T700/CT7-powered platforms, strengthening the operational readiness of the Polish Armed Forces.
The T700/CT7 engine family has a proven track record, powering more than 15 types of military and civilian helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft worldwide. To date, over 25,000 engines have been delivered, accumulating more than 130 million total flight hours. These engines have demonstrated their durability in some of the harshest environments, including combat zones in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Europe, more than 1,300 T700/CT7 engines have been delivered or are on order for military and paramilitary customers across 20 countries.
The contract with Poland for the T700 engines will be fulfilled under the US government’s Foreign Military Sales process, with production continuing through a 2024 Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract awarded by the US Army. This contract allows for the continued production of up to 950 T700 engines to meet the requirements of various US military branches and foreign customers until 2029.
