Norton | Saint-Gobain Abrasives has unveiled its NORaX N889 micro-structured abrasive belts, designed to deliver superior finishing performance across industries such as medical, aerospace, automotive, marine, metal fabrication, and general metalworking. These belts boast up to 30% better performance than their counterparts, offering longer life, consistent results, and reduced processing steps.
The NORaX N889 belts feature a high-performance micron-grade aluminum oxide grain, arranged in an innovative 3D pyramid pattern. This engineered abrasive slowly erodes during grinding, continuously exposing fresh abrasive grains. The result is 2-5 times longer belt life, faster cutting rates, and superior-quality finishes, making it an ideal solution for applications requiring lower pressure (0-8 psi) and high belt flexibility.
These belts are designed to provide a consistent finish throughout the entire part run. The multiple abrasive layers and precisely spaced pyramidal pattern prevent uncontrolled scratches, ensuring repeatable, uniform results. The flexible J-weight backing allows the belts to conform to complex contours, enabling high-quality finishes on intricate surfaces.
Available in a variety of grit sizes (X6 to X100), the NORaX N889 belts can be customized for specific applications and dimensions, enhancing their versatility.
“Compared to previous generations, the NORaX N889 belts maintain a consistent cut rate throughout their lifespan,” says Anne Bonner, Senior Product Manager at Norton | Saint-Gobain Abrasives. “Their ability to conform to contoured surfaces and provide consistent, high-quality finishes while reducing process steps offers significant cost savings to manufacturers.”
As part of Norton’s extensive NORaX range, the N889 belts exemplify the company’s commitment to advancing abrasive technology. By combining precision engineering with durable materials, Norton ensures these belts meet the evolving demands of modern manufacturing processes, making them a go-to solution for professionals across industries.
