UAE and Egypt Sign Strategic Deals in Manufacturing, Renewable Energy, and Industrial Development

Cairo, Egypt – In a significant step towards enhancing bilateral cooperation, the UAE and Egypt have signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to foster growth in manufacturing, renewable energy, and industrial development. The agreements were formalized during a ceremony attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, and other key officials.

The MoUs outline a series of projects aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth, expanding strategic partnerships, and creating new opportunities for joint investment. Key initiatives include the development of a UAE-Egypt industrial zone in East Port Said, which will serve as a hub for renewable energy, manufacturing, and advanced technologies. This 20-square-kilometre zone is expected to attract both domestic and international investments and bolster Egypt’s industrial capabilities.

Among the major projects is the construction of two plants in partnership between the UAE and Egypt to produce solar cells and solar panels with a combined capacity of 4 GW, as well as an energy storage facility with an initial capacity of 2 GW. Other projects include the development of large-scale solar power plants in the Dakhla Oasis, Benban, and Naga Hammadi, and a groundbreaking 3 GW floating photovoltaic solar plant on Lake Nasser, set to be one of the largest of its kind in the world.

Dr. Sultan Al Jaber highlighted the UAE’s commitment to collaborating with Egypt on critical sectors such as renewable energy and infrastructure, stressing the importance of industrial integration and sustainable development. “These agreements reflect the shared vision of our two nations to advance key industries and contribute to global sustainability,” said Dr. Al Jaber.

The agreements also emphasize Egypt’s renewable energy goals and efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, with a clear focus on expanding solar and wind energy capacities. The first phase of the solar projects is set to begin operations by mid-2025, contributing significantly to Egypt’s energy transition.

The new initiatives are part of Egypt’s broader strategy to strengthen its industrial sector, enhance exports, and achieve its sustainability goals, while creating jobs and fostering knowledge exchange through public-private partnerships. With strategic projects like the East Port Said Industrial Zone, the UAE and Egypt are laying the groundwork for long-term economic collaboration and sustainable growth.
