Dubai, UAE: Ecolab, a global leader in sustainability providing water solutions and services, has launched its first modular manufacturing facility in Egypt. This innovative containerized solution will enable rapid deployment of local production capabilities, enhancing regional manufacturing capacity and strengthening supply chain infrastructure.
In light of recent global supply chain disruptions, driven by geopolitical tensions, inflation, and evolving trade policies, Ecolab’s new approach aims to address these challenges by establishing scalable production units that can be quickly set up in strategic locations. The modular design of these facilities ensures efficient assembly and operation, allowing for seamless scaling of production when needed.
Mike Duijser, Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer at Ecolab, shared: “This modular manufacturing facility is a significant step forward in enhancing our ability to build resilient and adaptable supply networks. By localizing production, we’re not only improving efficiency but also reducing our carbon footprint, supporting sustainable growth for our customers.”
This launch comes at a time when governments globally, including those in the MENA region, are increasingly focusing on boosting local production and reducing reliance on imports. Ecolab’s modular manufacturing model directly supports these national goals, promoting industrial growth in Egypt and creating a template for similar expansions in other markets.
Stefan Umiastowski, Senior Vice-President CEO of Ecolab India, Middle East & Africa, said: “This new facility is a strategic development in our regional operations, reinforcing our commitment to delivering solutions tailored to local market needs. By localizing production, we are helping businesses in the Middle East and North Africa access essential services and creating opportunities for growth.”
The facility also aligns with Ecolab’s sustainability goals by reducing the need for long-distance transportation, thus minimizing carbon emissions and improving resource efficiency. This initiative is part of Ecolab’s broader commitment to reducing its environmental impact while advancing the sustainable development of the region.
As part of its 2030 Positive Impact initiative, Ecolab is committed to reducing its Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, with a longer-term goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050. In 2023, the company helped customers avoid 3.8 million metric tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, further emphasizing its dedication to sustainable growth.
