Renesas Unveils RZ/T2H Quad-Core MPU for High-Performance Industrial Control!

Renesas Electronics Corporation has launched the RZ/T2H, its most powerful microprocessor (MPU) for industrial equipment, designed to elevate industrial motor control and real-time processing capabilities. This MPU, built for high-speed, high-precision control, is capable of driving up to 9 axes of industrial robot motors, making it ideal for programmable logic controllers (PLCs), motion controllers, distributed control systems (DCSs), and computerized numerical controls (CNCs) used in manufacturing automation.

The RZ/T2H integrates both application processing and real-time performance on a single chip, eliminating the need for multiple MPUs or field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). This compact solution significantly reduces the number of components, streamlines the development process, and cuts costs, all while supporting advanced control functions. The chip features four Arm® Cortex®-A55 application CPUs running at up to 1.2 GHz, coupled with two Cortex-R52 CPUs optimized for real-time tasks. This combination enables the RZ/T2H to handle complex applications, such as robot trajectory generation and PLC sequence processing, while simultaneously managing precise real-time operations like motor control and Industrial Ethernet protocol processing.

The RZ/T2H is especially notable for its motor control capabilities. It can manage up to 9 axes of servo motors with precise, high-speed operation, ideal for industrial robots. The MPU supports essential motor control functions, including 3-phase PWM timers, delta-sigma interfaces for measuring current, and encoder interfaces for various protocols like A-format™, EnDat, BiSS®, Hyperface DSL, and FA-CODER. This integration of motor control features helps reduce component costs and accelerates development time.

In terms of connectivity, the RZ/T2H offers exceptional flexibility with four Ethernet ports and support for multiple Industrial Ethernet protocols, including EtherCAT, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA, and Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN). This allows the MPU to support a variety of industrial controllers and devices, making it adaptable to a wide range of industrial applications.

To further support industrial development, Renesas provides a comprehensive software package, including the Flexible Software Package (FSP) and long-term Linux support. It also offers an out-of-the-box multi-axis motor control solution with inverter boards and software tools to simplify system development. In addition, Renesas’ Winning Combinations program provides vetted system architectures that integrate the RZ/T2H with other compatible devices for optimized performance and faster time to market.

The RZ/T2H marks a significant advancement in industrial automation, enabling businesses to streamline production, enhance motor control precision, and drive innovation across various sectors.
