America Makes has announced the appointment of Dr. Edward D. Herderick as its new Director of Education and Workforce Development (EWD). Dr. Herderick, who has nearly 20 years of experience in additive manufacturing across various materials, including metals, ceramics, and polymers, will lead the Institute’s strategic initiatives and business development in EWD. His previous roles include Vice President for Science and Technology Development at NSL Analytical, where he focused on AM and aerospace services, and Director of Additive Manufacturing at Ohio State University’s Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence.
Dr. Herderick expressed excitement about his new role, emphasizing his dedication to supporting career growth within the AM industry. “Supporting people in their educational and career journeys is a lifelong passion,” he stated, highlighting the opportunity to address the skills gap in AM through expanded workforce initiatives at America Makes. His leadership will guide a broad portfolio of programs, including K-12 outreach, post-secondary courses, DoD training, and industry-recognized credentials.
