Nidec Unveils Compact Universal Head for Precision Milling Mastery

Nidec Machine Tool Corp. has introduced its latest innovation, the Universal Head (UH), an enhancement for the MVR series of double column-type milling machines renowned for their five-face machining capabilities. The UH boasts a more streamlined design compared to traditional counterparts, yet maintains superior spindle performance characterized by high output and speed.

This compact UH facilitates enhanced accessibility between the tool and workpiece, delivering superior surface-finish quality, extended motion range, and high-efficiency machining under optimal conditions.

Featuring an inclined axis with an extended toolholding projection, the new UH ensures improved accessibility and accommodates the use of short and small tools. Moreover, its robust main spindle enables a versatile range of machining processes, from rough to finish machining, even when utilizing long tools. With an impressive approach distance of up to 220 mm (8.6″) to the wall, thanks to an enhanced swing span and reduced interference range, the UH minimizes interference areas with the workpiece, enabling precision machining on small, thin, and deep corners.

Designed for enhanced efficiency, the UH boasts a spindle speed range of 20-6,000 rpm, a spindle motor output of 15 kW/420 rpm, and a maximum torque of 341 Nm. It offers faster indexing times for each axis, shorter machining durations due to stiffer attachments, and various features aimed at enhancing productivity.

Additionally, the UH offers exceptional versatility in machining, catering to a wide spectrum of works ranging from heavy-duty cutting to high-precision mold-finish machining.

Compatible with Nidec’s MVR·Ax and MVR·Hx double column-type milling machines with five-face machining capabilities, the UH represents a significant advancement in precision milling technology.
