Stellantis claims that when it begins selling tiny and midsize electric vehicles based on new underpinnings next year, they will have a range of up to 435 miles (700 km). The business made the assertion on Wednesday when it introduced its new medium-sized platform for housing battery packs and electric drive trains.

Stellantis claims that the range will be best in the compact and midsize sectors, where it is now about 300 miles. Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, a business formed by the merger of Fiat Chrysler and France’s Peugeot S.A., stated that Stellantis intends to launch 47 EVs globally by the end of next year. He stated that further information about the vehicles will be released later this year.

The first car to be built on the platform will be the next generation of the Peugeot 3008, a small crossover SUV. He stated that the first new vehicle based on the platform will be released later this year. According to the firm, the new vehicles will also have a lower-range basic battery pack that can go more than 310 miles (500 km) each charge. According to him, the new EVs will be sold in the United States by Peugeot, Opel, and Lancia, as well as Chrysler.

Tavares stated that the new platform will allow the business to produce up to 2 million vehicles per year in plants in France, Italy, Germany, and various sites across North America. Stellantis also intends to develop smaller vehicles on the platform for less than 25,000 euros ($27,153) in Southeast Asia and maybe lower-cost European areas to compete with Chinese automakers, according to Tavares.
