“MACH to the Future” with M.A. Ford Europe
Celebrating their 20th anniversary and launching a number of new products at MACH 2018, M.A. Ford…
MACH 2018 is a key focus for high performance cutting tool and manufacturing solutions specialist, M.A. Ford Europe, as the company is not only celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, but is also launching a number of new tooling ranges and key extensions to existing product lines at the show.
At the head of the list is the new ‘XT-9 Series 380’ end mill for high speed machining of Inconel, Titanium, stainless steel and similar difficult to machine materials. Using a nine-flute design to reduce harmonics and the latest ALtima Xtreme AX coating technology with a maximum service temperature of 1100O C, the XT-9 achieves typical cutting speeds of 55 m/min on Inconel and 115 m/min on Titanium in diameters ranging from 8mm to 20mm.
Also being launched in the UK at MACH is the new indexable ‘High Feed Series’ milling ranges from the company’s cost–effective Fordmax range, which incorporates both cylindrical and modular shank end mills for roughing operations on 3D machining and die & mould applications.
Indexable inserts with dedicated geometries give the best performance when machining various materials, including steel and stainless steel, together with Titanium and high temperature alloys.
The new solid carbide Series 158 is another new product being launched at MACH for use in 3D machining and die & mould applications, where its ‘super-hard’ ALtima52 TiAlSiN coating, corner radius options and special cutting edge preparation enables it to excel when roughing and finish machining hardened materials and super alloys.
An extension to the five-flute V5LCB solid carbide end mill range, which incorporates integral chip breakers, is also being introduced at the show with extended lengths up to 3 x diameter and through coolant options. The flutes are also precision ground with an unequal pitch to remove harmonic vibration and the range is available in diameters from 8mm to 16mm. Also on show is the MXDSR solid carbide micro-drill range with diameters from 0.50 mm to 2.95mm, they incorporate web-thinned points to reduce cutting forces.
A Haas VF-2SS vertical machining centre will be providing continuous high performance cutting demonstrations throughout the show on the M.A. Ford Europe stand, alongside demonstrations of the REGO-FIX® powRgrip® system including its non-pull out secuRgrip® tool holding solution.
A new feature on the M.A. Ford Europe stand at this year’s MACH are two special machining solutions areas. The first focuses on different cutting tool solutions specifically for Heat Resistant Super Alloys (HRSA) and the second is dedicated to high performance machining of composite materials. These two ‘zones’ to provide visitors with key information on the cutting tool technologies including the new XT-9 Series 380 end mills, the Series 239 diamond coated routers and new ceramic end mills, as well as Rego-Fix® tool holding systems.
David Ward, M.A. Ford Europe’s Managing Director, explained: “Since the last MACH show two years ago, we have continued to innovate and bring new high performance solutions to the market, which have been instrumental in us maintaining growth in the UK and across Europe. At MACH we’re launching new products and additions to virtually every product group that we offer including end mills, drills and threading as well focusing on key sectors such as composites and HRSA materials. We’ve got a lot going on at MACH this year, as well as celebrating 20 years in business in the UK.”
